Sunday 27 July 2025 Text: Luke 11: 1-13 Call to Worship (based on Psalm 85) Peace-loving and peace-giving God, you bless us with your unfailing and unconditional love: We come to worship and praise our loving God, and rejoice in God’s tender mercy towards us. Generous God, you pour blessings and grace upon us, forgiving us for our sin and shame: We come to worship and honour our merciful God, and rejoice in the wonder of forgiven and forgotten sin. Holy God, in the beauty of your shalom, and in the glory of your presence, all barriers are lowered: We come to worship and revere our glorious God, who enriches the lives of God’s own people and speaks peace into the hearts of all faithful people. Amen. Last week Hamish challenged us to focus for a whole week on the reading from Luke 11: 1-13, writing down each day 5 things that struck them from the text. Today's sermon picks up on that and offers insights that Hamish has gleaned over the week. Watch the recorded sermon here: https://youtu.be/u203Y8WyX2c

Sunday 20 July 2025 Text: Luke 10: 38-42 By the time we get to this story about Mary and Martha in the gospel of Luke, Jesus was starting to become laser focused on his impending death on the cross, and he was trying to get his disciples to share the focus. Constantly assailed by the many, the crowds, Jesus retreats to the comfort and warmth of the home of old and close friends, the house of Mary, Martha and Lazarus. Mary and Martha are both clearly excited to have Jesus’ visit but show this in vastly different ways. In today’s sermon Mark considers the story of The Good Samaritan and how it applies to us. There are all sorts of factors that will influence that end result. Very importantly, there is our own unique gift of human personality, but the influence of events and the impact of others are also significant. John Stott stated that he had come to the conclusion that God’s purpose for his people is to become like Christ: he lands on Christlikeness as God’s purpose for his people. In today’s sermon, Hamish explores what it is to be, and what it takes to achieve, Christlikeness. Watch the recording here: https://youtu.be/xX-zLIzc3Pg |
